Is a Chihuahua Right for You?

Chihuahuas make great companions for older people. Because small children can be loud and well, after all they are kids, they can be scary and dangerous for a chihuahua. Other than the fact that chihuahuas can be loud little barkers, they would work well for apartment dwellers. They don’t require much room for adequate exercise. Because of their small size they are also very sensitive to the cold and should wear a sweater when taken out into the cold. Once again, don’t leave a chihuahua out by themselves because of the risk of a bird taking them off or slipping through a fence. It is also not a good idea to put a chihuahua with a big dog because they can easily get hurt while playing. I have a miniature dachshund and she had to learn how to play with Tinkerbell safely and gently. They do great together but there are occasions that Tinkerbell will scream like Heidi got too rough with her (although that may just be for attention!). I don’t have to worry about Heidi accidentally crushing her or pouncing on her and breaking something. One thing I want to mention that I have read lately is the danger of grapes or raisins to dogs. It can lead to kidney failure and death in dogs so please be careful of what hits the floor when you are eating or working in the kitchen. It does not take much of a bad thing to be toxic for a small dog.
